Manchester airport, an international airport based just 20 minutes from the city centre has recently unveiled a new, direct service to India’s capital, Delhi.
With flights scheduled to start from November, the new direct route is part of the governments wider trade mission, to boost cultural ties and trade relationships with Indian airline IndiGo running the new route. Flights between Manchester Airport and Mumbai were launched earlier this year, meaning Manchester will soon have nine direct flights to India per week. The new connection will see Manchester Airport become the only airport outside London to offer direct flights to India.
According to recent census data, more than 140,000 people in the Indian diaspora live in the North West of England. Manchester Airport’s managing director Chris Woodroofe, said the new route would “drive tens of millions of pounds in economic value every year.”
Manchester Airport is one of the largest in the UK, with 30 million passengers flying through this airport each year. The airport offers direct flights to key territories such as Dubai, in addition to also flying directly to 194 destinations in 57 countries, across 4 continents, offering key transport links to the rest of the world.
