Sister, a £1.7 billion innovation district has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Platform94, Galway’s largest innovation hub.
The new partnership is designed to give customers international access to working spaces, helping both Manchester and Galway based start-up businesses to expand overseas. Agreed for the next 12 months, the partnership offers reciprocal access to workplaces, encouraging collaboration, knowledge exchange and market entry support.
As the UK’s latest tech hub outside of London, and one of the fastest-growing tech city in Europe, Manchester is home to over 10,000 digital businesses. Since launching in 2024, Sister has supported over 50 growing startups.
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester said: “Both Greater Manchester and Galway are home to thriving digital and tech sectors, with shared strengths in areas like AI and medical technologies. During our recent trade mission to Ireland we explored opportunities for further collaboration and it’s great to see those discussions result in this partnership, which is all about helping innovative companies work together and access new markets. Many Irish companies have chosen Greater Manchester as their UK base, and by strengthening our offer we can make that process more straightforward for the next wave of businesses looking to expand here, meaning more investment and more jobs created in our city region.”
